Supported Employment Program (SEP) What is supported employment?

Supported employment is a program that allows individuals with disabilities to move from unemployment or underemployment in a segregated setting to an integrated job in the community. marcfirst SEP helps develop appropriate jobs based on the interest and preference of the individuals supported. In addition, the program helps to link workers with employers and provides training and on-site job coaching.

Goal of supported employment

The goal of SEP is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to find and maintain viable community employment with desired outcome to reduce or fade supports as the individuals become more independent.

Services offered through supported employment

Job Development
Job development is provided by Supported Employment staff who consult on jobs that fit the interest and skill level of the individual being supported. This includes developing a position for employment or expanding a current job location.
Job Coaching
Job coaching is provided by SEP job coaches on the job site. The amount of support is offered on an individual basis with the ultimate goal of having the individual be as independent as possible on the job.

Transition services

From school to work program
Supported Employment has also expanded to address the employment for young adults with disabilities ages(18-21). The goal of this program is to assist individuals in making a smooth transition from the school setting into the work force.


The goal of SEP is to assist in finding and maintaining viable employment in the community
